Still Time
Tonight, my friend Jen and I went to Downtown Brew in SLO to see a local band, Still Time, play. At the beginning of Still Time's set, Downtown Brew's owner came to introduce the band and said that Still Time always puts on a memorable show and guaranteed we'll all be talking about it tomorrow. This set the bar kinda high. Hell, even if she set the bar low, Still Time still wouldn't have lived up to the hype. I'll give them this: their music isn't bad, and some songs are good ( "9 to 5" and "High Tide"). The lead singer has a voice that reminds me of Dave Matthews and the guitarist and bassist are really can jam. But if these guys ever want to hit it big, hey need to tone all the shit down. For starters, the band comes out on stage in costume, emulating characters from Deliverance. The lead singer was even sporting a coonskin cap and water blatter around his neck (filled with malt liquor). Then, they have a guy hobble on stage with a cane, sit and screech. I use the word screech because it's the only way I can describe whatever voice he was trying to do. I couldn't understand a word he said and I'm pretty sure it didn't matter, anyway. So, the guys play their songs, slamming forties of malt liquor in between sets and slapping their knees to the beat of the music. Then, the lead singer pulls out a fake dove and tells the audience that "everytime the crowd sings, a bird gets his wings." He then played with this bird for the next two songs, alternating between petting it and saying "pretty bird" and putting it up to the other's band members ears. I'm pretty sure the bird was telling them to put it down and get to playing the damn music! Other highlights: the band's failed attempt to get a beach ball circulating around the crowd and the one crowd surfer's very short ride. Jen and I cut out early and went across the street to get cake. Apparently, we cut out before the "epic battle" took place (I just saw that on their website). Darn.

Sounds like the lead singer used his flask to take an e-tablet before the show too...
